What attracted you to Resolution Life?
I like to continuously challenge myself and never stop learning. When Resolution set up its reinsurance platform in Bermuda, I saw an opportunity to do just that: learn from the wealth of knowledge and experience in the organisation, and be at the forefront of developing solutions to the complex problems facing the life insurance industry.
What career path do you have at Resolution?
There is a long and interesting path ahead. I’m performing a mix of different roles, supporting different teams and multiple functions across time zones. This diversified pool of experience has really opened up a great range of possibilities.
What did you expect life at Resolution to be like? Has the reality lived up to your expectations?
As expected there has been to be a lot of work developing the processes and controls to support the financial reporting function. In addition, I have worked with different areas of the business, including risk, actuarial and M&A, which is very rewarding; as is the strong sense of teaming, coaching and mentoring in the business.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most is the learning opportunities that this job presents. I really enjoy the diversity as each day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow.
If you weren't an accountant what would you like to be?
A professional cyclist. One day I’ll retire from the saddle – then become a life insurance actuary!
If you could have any person's job at Resolution, whose job would you choose and why?
I think I’d enjoy Jonathan Moss’s job. The Risk function is really intriguing to me, probably due to my background as an auditor, and Jonathan gets to be involved in fascinating transactions and decisions.
As an employer, what does Resolution value?
Resolution values a real diversity of experience in its people, as well as integrity and a collaborative approach. Everyone has a unique background and when we’re in problem-solving mode a lot of value is gained from having diverse backgrounds in the same room, with everyone contributing.
Name a colleague at Resolution who best embodies the company's values. Why?
Steve Hales. He’s always thinking, challenging, probing and making sure we’re considering all the facts. He encourages us to consult with our SMEs to ensure every last detail is attended to.
Has Resolution invested in your learning and development?
In addition to the variety of projects and people I’ve been exposed to, Resolution has also supported me in my decision to pursue a risk management designation.
What would you like your next job to be at Resolution?
Captain of the ship, of course!
